Orange Yuccas

This is another combination of IR and visible light (red and blue from the visible light image and green from the IR). The focus seems a little soft (I read somewhere that sometimes the focus needs to be adjusted to compensate for the longer IR wavelenght...).

  1. I like this image, it is really interesting.

You are correct that IR focuses differently. Take a look at an older, manual focus lens. It will most likely have a red dot on the focusing ring. The dot is used for focusing in the IR spectrum.

Say you are taking a picture of something 30 feet away. Set the focus to 30 feet in the visible spectrum then adjust the focus to the red dot. This should compensate for the shift in wavelength.

Some of the companies that do IR conversions adjust the cameras so that auto focus stills works. I'm still going back and forth between converting a camera to pure IR or full spectrum. Unfortunately I'm starting to lean towards one of each. A true IR camera so that I can use the built in metering and auto focus and a clear filter so I can change the frequency of the IR lens and do astrophotography. Ah, if only I were independently wealthy...

  2. I must say again, I really like the look of this image. Now I'll have to experiment with visible and IR imaging.
