2 amoebas

We found these two amoebas in some water from our fish tank.

microscopic thing

I picked up some mud and dead grass at the park where the sprinklers are leaking and looked at it under my daughter's microscope (at about 400x). More interesting things were swimming around, but this being either dead, dormant, or a plant, and was much easier to photograph. It's nine images focus stacked together.

High Above

Got this idea from Dan. It has been many years since I had a window seat, but this time I was glad. I got several good pictures of the Grand Canyon from high above.

woo-wee!

My friends and I had a bit to drink and then decided to take some night photos on the beach in Maui. It took us almost 50 shots to get us all in sync, boy were we pooped but we never laughed so much!

Maui fun

Had fun watching some locals boys catch air on their boogie boards during my Maui vacation. This guy was really good.

Key West Sunset

There is nothing quite like a Key West Sunset. I did not manipulate this photo in any way.

Cloudy Day

I took this photo in the parking lot at IGT a few weeks ago. I put a couple of filters on it in Photoshop. I think it looks really creepy.

Santa!

Took a peek into Santa's house. I love this shot, it feels so much like Christmas, it really got me in the spirit.

3D Graffiti

This was taken at the Boneyard photoshoot this past weekend with Phil, James and Yu Ting. I Will have more to post from this outing, but so far this is my favorite. To me it feels a little like a Pollack that you can read. I pulled out the colors using lightroom.

It was very neat experience to get so close to pelican(?), they look so graceful gliding only few inches away from the sea surface

Camouflage Wildlife

Was at the SeaWorld watching sea lion show this past weekend, I caught this moment where the trainer and sea lion are looking at each other, this sea lion's expression really shows a strong connection between himself and the trainer.

HDR Test

A quick test of manual exposure bracketing. The D60 does not do bracketing so I wanted to see how well the images lined up if I manually changed the shutter speed. This image was quickly put together from 9 photos. The results were good but I still want to find a hands-free solution.

Looks Fake, But It's Real

Practice with close-up. I know there is glare, but I think it adds to the picture.

A little Thanksgiving fun

My niece looking down at me from the deck above. (Don't worry, my cousin was holding her). I love how tiny she looks and how blue the sky is, it was amazingly clear in Arizona on Thanksgiving.

Neon Ride

Not a strict photograph but I liked the print it made. This is a shot of my bike up at Valley of Fire the night of the perseid meteor showers in August. (You can still barely make out the meteor in the upper left.)

I got tired of trying to clean up the image and just applied the "Glowing Edges" filter for fun. The image looks great at 8.5 x 11 and I expect it would make a good poster size print as well.

Here is the original image:

The Moon was just rising over the hills behind me and lighting up the rocks in the background. I washed the bike with an LED flashlight during the 30 second exposure. Unfortunately the bike was out of focus. Otherwise I was happy with the picture.
