HDR Test

A quick test of manual exposure bracketing. The D60 does not do bracketing so I wanted to see how well the images lined up if I manually changed the shutter speed. This image was quickly put together from 9 photos. The results were good but I still want to find a hands-free solution.

Looks Fake, But It's Real

Practice with close-up. I know there is glare, but I think it adds to the picture.

A little Thanksgiving fun

My niece looking down at me from the deck above. (Don't worry, my cousin was holding her). I love how tiny she looks and how blue the sky is, it was amazingly clear in Arizona on Thanksgiving.

Neon Ride

Not a strict photograph but I liked the print it made. This is a shot of my bike up at Valley of Fire the night of the perseid meteor showers in August. (You can still barely make out the meteor in the upper left.)

I got tired of trying to clean up the image and just applied the "Glowing Edges" filter for fun. The image looks great at 8.5 x 11 and I expect it would make a good poster size print as well.

Here is the original image:

The Moon was just rising over the hills behind me and lighting up the rocks in the background. I washed the bike with an LED flashlight during the 30 second exposure. Unfortunately the bike was out of focus. Otherwise I was happy with the picture.

Not Scared of Heights

Zions National Park

At the Zions couple weeks ago and forgot to show this one
I used Photoshop to increase the Saturation a bit to bring out the color
Thanks to Dan for the suggestion.

musician

I used a cyanotype filter in Lightroom and did a ton of other things to blow out some of the blue. Then I took it into Photoshop and did a few more adjustments.

Another video shoot

I used my little 50mm lens for this shot. Unfortunately the room was tiny so I couldn't use a tripod and I couldn't use a flash because it would have messed up the video shoot, but I still like how the shot turned out. This singer sings with a lot of emotion and I think it showed in this shot.

This reminds me we need a Dark Horse Studio team picture. Similar to the 'Sense of Humor' and 'Lineup'.

New Gallery

I've had a little fun over the past couple of weeks. I've setup a small gallery on the third floor. It is in section 3S next to the center stairwell.

So far I've just done some quick prints. I'm still in the process of getting setup at home to do some proper photo editing. As I get more prints I'll replace some of the ones that are already up or add more frames. My ultimate goal is to have pictures all the way around our cube walls.

Leonids

After four cold hours at Red Rock I only caught one small meteor Monday night...

Star Trails

My new camera (new to me: Nikon D60) came on Monday so I headed out for a test run with the Leonids. Even though I saw some really nice meteors the camera only caught one for the night. I'll post those pictures later.

While I was working with the D60 I was also testing out a 50mm f1.8 lens I had on my film camera back in the 80s. Today it finds itself mounted on my trusty D70. Since I wasn't used to the f1.8 lens I did a lot of test shots at various apertures and timings. This was the best shot of the night:

Nikon D70, 50mm, f4, ISO 200, 981.9 second exposure, some Photoshop work.

Aniversary Narrows

These are Some HDRs I shot just north of Caulville bay, on the edge of lake mead. I originally just wanted to shoot them in HDR to minimize harsh shadows, but this look turned out to be more fun.

Palm Trees

These palm trees were really cool to walk under. There were hundreds of them. It felt like attack of the palm trees but it was very pretty.

More Dam Pictures

Since everybody seems to be posting pictures of the Hoover Dam I figured I should add mine as well. :^) These were taken on my way home from Sedona on the same day I took the shot at Montezuma's Well. I need to go back and spend some real time at the dam - there are a lot of great shots to be had there. The composition on these could be better but I like the colors.

Nikon D70, tripple exposure HDR images. Only the last one was rotated slightly and cropped to fix the camera not being true vertical. Sorry, they are still only 600 pixels wide. I haven't had a chance to export anything else.

Rainbow

First time in Zions National Park, it's a very beautiful place to visit and to shoot photography :)

What Grows??

I discovered this strange looking tree on a walk in Utah. I believe the evening light would have been better, but I returned to Vegas that morning.

Sky View

This is a photo I took at the Encore in a suite overlooking the strip. There was an awesome view of lights but the reflections from the window were challenging. I decided to use the sheer black curtains to block the sharp reflections. I like how you can still see the outside lights through them and also some of the lights within the room.

Dam Bridge

I'll add more later

Family Picture

This is a shot from a photo shoot my wife and I took of some friends of ours a couple of weeks ago. My wife was the director on this shot, so I gotta give her kudos. I had to Photoshop in some open eyes here from a consecutive shot.

Montezuma's Well

Just a quick post to say hello and figure out how the blog works. :^)

This is a triple exposure taken with a Nikon D70. The photo has not been manipulated after creating the HDR image.
