bokeh contrast colors and similiar colors

I like the contrast between the money and the red background.

I was drawn to the dark natural saturated blue sky, the dark cloud and reflection really added a lot into it showing how quiet and still everything is.

Night Photo

Did a little experimenting with some of the camera settings. Darkened the darks slightly with levels in PS. I think I like the idea of a weekly assignment. It got me to turn the camera on again.

Our new lamp

I mean Dog. His name is Dublin, we just picked him up from the shelter on Sunday. They said he is a poodle mix; mixed with what? I don't know. Our best guess right now is that he is a Bichon Frise mini poodle mix. we can't get him cleaned up for a couple of weeks because he was snipped.

Boating by night

I tried a few night shots but I didn't like any of them and then I ran out of time. I took this shot of a boat floating in the ocean. I really like the contrast of textures with the bumpy sand, the misty ocean waves, and the stars in the dark sky. I still have a few ideas that I want to try for another night shot, so I owe another shot.

Cactus Garden - Infra Red

This lens (Canon 85mm f/1.8) isn't working out for infra-red photography - I can't seem to get rid of the hotspot in the center of each image.

I like this shot because it looks pretty...and a little creepy. No filters were used on this shot.

Motion Ghost

The exposure time was probably about 8 seconds - any motion is easily blurred. The magenta bloom in the center of the image is from IR light bouncing around inside the lens (I think I read that somewhere...).

Infra Red Test

This is my first experimentation with digital infra-red photography. I used an infra-red filter on the camera, which is opaque to visible light. The exposure times were between 6 and 30 seconds. The top left is camera raw, top right is .jpeg, bottom left is raw converted to B&W in Adobe Bridge, and the bottom right is visible light.

Microscope Setup

Camera on top connects to a pc via USB. Stain kit is used to color transparent structures.

Here are some shots of Kendo(Japanese fencing) armors at a dojo while I was in Charlotte, the wear and tear on the armor show the martial artist's dedication and spirit to Kendo

I took some Moon shots and only got blown out images. Yu-ting suggested a faster shutter speed and low and behold the pictures came out much better. That's what I get for trusting too much in the built in meter. :^)

These pictures were taken with a hand held D60 using auto focus. It was just a simple test to try out the different lenses. The pictures were taken two days after the Blue Moon. They have not been altered except to crop them to the same size.

This was partially driven by my recent journey into non-standard lenses. I have been given some old Topcon lenses (25mm f3.5, 87-205 f4.7, 300mm f5.6). I'm still working to find the right adapters to use them with the Nikons.

I will also be moving into the realm of medium format lenses mounted on the Nikons. I have found both sift and tilt adapters for the medium format glass. This will result in some very special purpose setups but the price point is right.

So after all this rambling... These test shots were in preperation to getting the old and new lenses mounted on my cameras.

I really like the way the reds transitions into the blues. Unaltered image. My cell.


I think the lighting and atmosphere into the distance mountains made this photo interesting for me. Cropped just a little bit of the top and bottom of this image. Roughly equal amounts. Used levels to lighten the foreground just a touch.

These are diatoms photographed at 400x. We found them in water from Lake Mead. Each mark on the scale is 0.01 mm.
