Infra Red Test

This is my first experimentation with digital infra-red photography. I used an infra-red filter on the camera, which is opaque to visible light. The exposure times were between 6 and 30 seconds. The top left is camera raw, top right is .jpeg, bottom left is raw converted to B&W in Adobe Bridge, and the bottom right is visible light.

  1. It's curious that the lens flare is only visible in the IR images.

  2. I have noticed similar flares with long exposures. For me they are usually smudges on the lens.

  3. What wave length filter are you using?

I'm really interested in IR photography and I think I have resigned myself to ultimately having two cameras converted for IR. One will be a fixed wave length and the other will use clear glass.

The fixed wave length camera will allow the use of normal auto focus and metering. The clear glass will work with various lens mounted filters and also include UV. I believe this second setup will be better at astrophotography.

Now I just need to find somebody to buy me all the gear. :^)
